Big Beautiful Women, or BBW Romances most often involve the struggle with body image and deserving love!

BBW or Big Beautiful Women Romances are also referred to as Big Girl,  Fat Girl and Plus Sized  or Curvy Girls/Women  Romances.  Usually the novels involve “big” and  “rubenesque” women,  though I have seen one romance with a lead “hefty” male lead character.

Whether the women are smallish with BIG curves or biggish with bigger curves, they are pretty well in angst about their bodies and their weight.  The hold-up point in the romance plot is where they can’t believe this gorgeousness guy (or woman) can be in love with them.

Occasionally you run into a female lead who is at peace with her body, but it becomes an issue with the male protagonist.



In spite of the tears, there are always happy endings.

BBW Romances have a dedicated audience who gobble the books up as fast as they are released.  I “used” to be a fat girl and still enjoy  BBW romances.  I wondered if the majority of BBW book lovers are also fat.  My very unscientific research says NO … my poll included several skinny friends.  When I asked what appealed to them about the  books, they said that the BBW struggle was right out there and obvious.  The discrimination is nasty and in your face.  There is no mistaking a “mixed” couple, whether it is a fat girl with a skinny guy, or a fat guy with a skinny girl.   The struggle and coming together as a couple is not only internal, but external as well.
